Last evening, DG Elizabeth and I traveled to Millersburg. What a special evening. Earlier in the day, I was reviewing the Club Roster and found that two very special people from my past were members. Mr. Tom Miller and Mr. David Hawley. Mr. Miller and Mr. Hawley were executives at Community Banks, N.A. when I started working there as Assistant Manager in a new branch in Rutherford. First, Community Banks was the BEST bank I ever worked for. ALL of the employees were wonderful and the Executives were approachable and caring. So caring, that I will never forget them. When I was 4 1/2 months pregnant in 1997, my husband at the time, John Miller, passed away at age 25 after a short bout with cancer. Tom and Dave, among others from Community Banks, attended John's funeral to show their love and caring during that difficult time. To this day, I feel very blessed to have worked for them because they are such wonderful human beings. Mr. Miller was not in attendance (I was very sorry to hear about the passing of his wife this past May), but Dave "Butch" Hawley was and I couldn't have been happier to see him. Unfortunately, Emily had to work. He didn't recognize me, but that's ok. As soon KL Barry introduced me and I thanked him again after all these years, he remembered. It was a treat to catch up!!!
Also, DG Elizabeth and I found out that the Millersburg club was holding it's first August meeting as they normally wouldn't start their year until September. And KL Barry's words had a very special meaning. He spoke from the heart about how much DG Elizabeth's visit meant to the club and how the club will look back over the year and see how her encouraging words influenced the members to grow in members and in service.
I am thankful every day to be part of this wonderful organization we call "Lions". But more importantly, I call "family".
Until next time...
